There were lots of new products and services on display at the show for the many visitors looking ahead to the 2011 motorsport season.

Here are just a few of the highlights:

All-new GT gearbox

Exhibiting at its first trade show in around five years, Hewland Engineering brought its brand-new LLS/LWS six-speed transaxle gearbox for GT cars to Professional MotorSport World Expo. Superseding the highly successful NLT design, the LLS (and its high-torque LWS version) can run as a sequential manual but has been designed from the ground up for semi-automatic operation, with the necessary actuators and air compressor built in as required.

Wheel alignment innovation

Swedish company WheelCam’s wheel alignment technology has come from the truck market and is new to the motorsport arena, where it’s been tested in 2010 in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia and the Swedish Touring Car Championship. It attracted lots of attention at the company’s stand in Hall 7, where it was set up to measure toe, camber and steering parallelity on a 911.

Turbocharger expansion

It’s a busy time for first-time exhibitor, Owen Developments. The turbocharger specialist has just won a contract to supply turbos for the British Touring Car Championship’s NGTC-spec engines, on the back of successful programmes in Formula Two and the Team Aon Ford Focus touring cars in 2010. “We believe we are the right people to support that level of work,” commented Lee Owen, the firm’s director of turbochargers. “Other racing going on around Europe is going to follow a similar path. Motorsport is on the up and it’s all going back to turbos.”

Special-build electronics

At St Cross Electronics, which has an expanded presence at this year’s show, the focus is on the increasing number of special builds the company is undertaking for racing customers. These include switch panels and steering wheels, examples of which were on display to visitors. In other news, the company is now packaging data loggers, digital dashboards and race cams from Race Technology into its subassemblies, as well as power control modules and ECUs from Ole Buhl Racing, as it did earlier this year for a customer in Japanese Super GT.
