2014 Exhibitor Interviews

Tim Strafford, business development, McLaren Applied Technologies, UK, showcases the company’s E-Motor and MCU used in the McLaren P1 hypercar and now successfully being deployed in motorsport as the 200kW 270hp all-electric powertrain at the heart of the Formula-E championship.

Ian Nash, technical sales manager, AP Racing, UK, introduces the PRO 5000 R range of brake callipers, a new entry-level option of Radi-CAL calliper developed from the company’s vast experience in all areas of motorsport and featuring the latest innovations from its pioneering asymmetric design concept.

Rob Kirke, global sales manager – motorsport, Cosworth, UK, talks about the company’s unique combination of experience and capability for providing race-winning engines to independent and OE manufacturer teams. He also discusses the extensive product range including advanced dataloggers and programmable displays, engine control units and high-bandwidth telemetry systems.

James Shingleton, business development manager, BF1Systems, UK, comments on the company’s full range of electrical and composite solutions on display on its stand, including a main chassis wiring harness from an LMP1 car, 2013 & 2014 F1 steering wheels, tyre pressure and temperature monitoring systems and the first public showing of the new custom Porsche 991 instrumented damper eyes.

Nico Ehlert, principal engineer customer motorsport, Toyota Motorsport, Germany, showcases the rear-wheel-drive GT86 CS-R3 rally car aimed at private competitors, offering reliability, safety and, most of all, fun. The car conforms to FIA R3 regulations, meaning it is suitable for all rally events, from local competitions right up to the FIA World Rally Championship.

Stefan Verdi, owner, Auto Verdi, Sweden, discusses the company’s range of forged H-profile connecting rods manufactured from Swedish chrome nickel molybdenum steel, and also its dry sump oil pumps, the choice of demanding motorsport customers including NHRA Pro Stock, outboard F1 marine, drag racing and NASCAR.

Andy Picking, Sales Manager, Quentor, UK showcases the company’s all new low cost composite fully modular Fast-Track flexible banner system, a modular pit wall panel system with all the benefits and features of the company’s existing aluminium product being utilized by teams in a number of formulas including F1, Le Mans series, GP2, GP3 and FIA GT series but at a lower cost.

Peter Whyman, marketing director, Zircotec, UK, debuts the company’s first-ever "structural" ZircoFlex FORM heat shield, a more rigid hybrid composite and stainless-steel heat shield that enables engineers to benefit from Zircotec’s ceramic coating protection together with the strength and ability to form structures.

Hermann Tilke, partner, Tilke, Germany, a frequent exhibitor at the show, briefly discusses the company’s role in designing motorsport circuits for all formulas, emphasising that it’s not just the design of F1 circuits for which the company has made its name.

Volker Massini, key account manager, Bott, Germany, discusses the company with over 30 years’ experience providing motorsport teams with working environments that house a wide range of tools, consumables and spare parts, which can be relocated from workshop to circuit with great ease.

Ron Bush, managing director, Brookland Speed, UK, launches the company’s new stock range of race and hospitality trailers, the S4000 and SP3000, both available in multiple configurations and fully optimised to meet the needs of motorsports teams across many series.

Shemek Wisniewski, managing director, Ozparts, Australia, talks about the company, which is a logistical and sales platform supporting the distribution of Australian and US automotive components into Europe and supplying a range of parts including brake pads and discs, bearings, clutches, suspension components, turbos and other engine components.

Derek Hodder, director, EEC Performance Systems, UK, showcases the company’s f-POD fuel bowser, which can deliver or receive fuel with total accuracy and reliability, and which has been adopted by race teams in series such as GP2, WSR 3.5, WEC, British GT and Blancpain.

Taavi Madiberk, CEO, Skeleton Technologies, Estonia, discusses the company, which develops and manufactures high-energy graphene-based ultracapacitors for motorsport KERS applications with up to 60kW/kg and 101kW/L for unprecedented power delivery and up to 99% energy recovery.

Jamie Robinson, sales director, Ginetta Cars, UK, discusses the ethos of the Ginetta brand and touches on the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club, an all-inclusive driving package for people looking to take their first steps into motor racing, which begins with the delivery of a fully road-registered Ginetta G40R club race car and includes one-on-one driver tuition at dedicated track days working to towards a National B racing licence.

Jon Mansfield, director, GEMS Performance Electronics, UK, discusses the company, a leading developer and manufacturer of engine management, transmission control, data acquisition and in-car display systems. He also talks about two new products: the CD34 8” widescreen dash display and the DA3 compact 4GB datalogger.

Ella Barrington, business development manager, Base Performance Simulators, UK, discusses the company, which manufactures GT and single-seater simulator packages available to buy and hire, and which are tailored to the needs of professional and amateur drivers as well as corporate events organisers.

Mike Trice, principal, Populous, UK, a global leader in architecture and venue design, discusses the company’s partnership with West Surrey Racing – 2014 British Touring Car driver and team champion – which aims to develop new and redevelop existing circuits and venues to provide a better experience for race-goers and drivers alike.
